Eco-design is a continuous improvement approach aimed at factoring in environmental and societal issues right from the design stage of a product or service. Its aim is to limit IT resources and improve its #environmental and social performance throughout its life cycle.

It is with this in mind that the French INR (Institut du Numérique Responsable) has created GR491, a guide that provides practical recommendations to help organisations meet the challenges of developing digital services that are more responsible. Other tools also exist for taking this approach (RGESN, SDIA).
Armed with these resources and faced with the growing needs of organisations in terms of eco-design, Airbus, Sopra Steria and BNP Paribas Personal Finance have used these tools to create their own reference framework, applicable internally in order to respond effectively to their sustainability challenges.
